Lying is the same on both sides of the atlantic
A short musical mashup video showing that politicians speak the same and promote themselves in the same ways on both sides of the atlantic, taking as examples our countries. It does not represent our view over the specific political leaders portrayed in the video but instead represents our views on the way they communicate to their people. Advertisements, interviews, speeches and rallies were used to compare and contrast.
Hope you find it at least catchy :P

Thrashmaster a full-length Machinima
By Mathieu Weschler
Synopsis:
Created entirely with images from the video game Grand Theft Auto IV, this stylistic feat makes all former attempts to turn machinimas into a fully-fledged genre look like child's play. The "trashmaster" divides his time between collecting garbage and cleaning up other forms of trash fouling up New York City's streets: dealers, small-time criminals, rapists... When the dancers in his favourite strip club are mysteriously killed, the trashmaster finds himself hot on the trail of a particularly twisted serial killer.

PD workshop (machine slicer)
As part of our seminar we had a short workshop on Pure Data. We used this graphic programming tool for audio and video in order to introduce "Cut n' Paste" as a general post-production technique in digital media. The aim was to program a beat slice machine for audio files. The basis for our workshop was the Amen Break beat history.
Below, you find the outline of our workshop and a picture of our final beat slice machine.

Hello everyone,
This is short description of the UnreadEd project (into the game editor) we did on Tuesday afternoon in the class.

Hello everyone,
This is short description of the UnreadEd project (into the game editor) we did on Tuesday afternoon in the class.
p.s.: Ricardo I spent over an hour on trying to recall the exact steps we did in the seminar to create the scenario.. but my try was a complete failure! I don’t risk to write wrong or unfinished steps. I would ask your help in that part!!

Walk a Movie
Conceived by Ulrich Fischer, the system allows the user to create an individual video using already existing images that are connected to a certain place via geotagging. Depending on which route one takes and how fast the user walks, an individual movie is created.
Technically, “Walking the Edit” is based on GPS, geotagging, iPhone app and iPhone. By walking through the streets, the iPhone reveals and collects the audiovisual memory of the place. While walking you hear the movie that you are just editing. Once the movie is finished, you can watch it online on the website and share it with other people.

DIY filmmaker. Modern Times
HI,
this is fresh material for us all. Ben Craig is a DIY filmmaker from the UK, his latest work: Modern Times. This work is a short video, made in one week, with the help of a couple of friends, and mixing live action footage with CGI imagery.

From hypothesis to data driven research
At first glance this video is not necessarily related to hybrids. However, once you think of the data as the building blocks of contemporary science, art, design, and media, you might see then a correlation between the two ideas, hybrids and statistics. Data as the basis and hybridization as the result. Additionally, professor Hans Rosling makes several remarks of interest for our research task: maps, measurements, visualizations, analysis, garnering data, and finding correlations.
Take a look.
Take a look.
Welcome to the seminar
The objective of the semimar is to closely explore along with students from digital media the vast territories of do-it-yourself (DIY) and hybrid media in order to garner a fairly understanding of the specific features that make them novel forms of digital media. Examples of such hybrids might include movie productions, mobile narratives, graphic digital media, life-online sharing, real-time performances and transmedia narratives. This course tackles DIY, machinima, and hybrid media as means to engage us in a daring and challenging research in grass-roots media practices, thereafter, we will (hopefully) emerge with a good foundation of the semblance of contemporary digital media.
- Do-it-yourself (DIY)/ We will be dealing with DIY, the low budget practice with high expectations, as a form of both media resistance and participation. Nowadays, DIY has become a de-facto attitude towards media, everyone is an utterly media producer and operator of machinimas, game mods, mobile apps, blogs, wikis, online radios. All these expressions have steady challenged the traditional mass media structures of content's control. From this stand point we will be addressing at the cultural impact that concepts such as appropriation, repurposing, openness, remix, and playgiarism have on the nature of digital media.
- Hybrid media/ What has made possible the apparition of the hybrid media? Which role plays the automation of several media languages and techniques in the computer, in the appearance of such hybrids? How could be described the aesthetics of these hybrids? Should we be afraid of them? Thus, from this stream we will be looking at the machinic combination of media in rhizomatic surfaces.
- Machinima/ This term describes a relatively recent species of moving image that results from the mixture of playing video games and producing movies, a hybrid that silently in the underground but massive realm of video games has lured and inspired thousands to enter its territories. In the late 1990s, devoted video game players started to use video game software for experimental movie production. This is a marginal practice that utilizes recordings of gameplay to make short and simple narrative movies.
